  • 27 to 31 March – Course is conducted in person and hosted from our Melbourne office

Designed to strengthen the governance skills and knowledge of directors and senior executives, the Company Directors Course is an interactive course that provides an in-depth look at the critical elements of corporate governance and directorship.

The course is tailored to experienced directors wishing to take their performance to the next level, as well as senior executives reporting to the board who need to understand governance issues in depth.

What will you learn?

The Company Directors Course provides a comprehensive grounding in the roles and duties of board directors. It includes modules on effective decision-making, the legal aspects of directorship, financial literacy and strategy, as well as applying the learning through case studies.

This course you will help you:

  • Gain clarity around a director’s role, their legal responsibilities and community expectations.
  • Improve your financial literacy and understanding of the strategic and financial levers that can help drive performance and sustainable value in your organisation.
  • Explore the tensions between short and long-term priorities and diverse stakeholder interests.
  • Enhance future strategic discussions with the knowledge and tools you need to improve your organisation's performance and evaluate risks effectively.
  • Identify how you can make your board more effective and streamline board processes.
  • Enhance your judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Improve your performance as a director and deepen your understanding of boardroom dynamics.

The Company Directors Course comprises 10 modules:

  1. The Role of the Board and the Practice of Directorship
  2. Decision Making
  3. Directors’ Duties and Responsibilities
  4. The Board’s Legal Environment
  5. Risk: Issues for Boards
  6. Strategy: The Board’s Role
  7. Financial Literacy for Directors
  8. Driving Financial Performance
  9. Achieving Board Effectiveness
  10. Learning into Practice

What can you expect?

Over 5 days of focused learning, you will develop your director skills and knowledge of boardroom issues by exploring case studies and participating in interactive workshops on the issues and challenges that directors face.

There is approximately 40-60 hours of pre-reading required before the course takes place.

Following the course, you will be required to complete individual assessments.
